B VITAMINS – PANTOTHENIC ACID (VITAMIN B5)


Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B-5): Pantothenic acid, is one of 8 B vitamins known as Vitamin B5. All of B vitamins help the body convert food (carbohydrates) into fuel (glucose), which the body uses to produce energy. These B vitamins, often referred to as B complex vitamins, also help the body use fats and protein. Foods rich in pantothenic acid: Foods Pantothenic acid is found in almost all meat and vegetable foods. Foods that are rich in pantothenic acid (vitamin B-5) include:

Pantothenic acid Interactions: Pantothenic acid has no known severe or serious interactions with other drugs. Pantothenic acid has mild interactions with at least 68 different drugs.


Quantum of pantothenic acid: In order to prevent its deficiency the recommended intakes of pantothenic acid for:

  • Adults and teenagers - 4 to 7 milligrams (mg) per day.
  • Males & females - 9-13 years old 4 mg per day.
  • Males & females - 14 years & above 5mg per day.
  • Lactating women - 7 mg/day.
  • Pregnant women - 6 mg/day.
  • Children - 7 to 10 years old - 4 to 5 mg per day.
  • Children - 4 to 8 years old - 3 mg per day.
  • Children - 1 to 3 years old - 2 mg per day.
  • Infants - 7-12 months old - 1.8 mg per day.
  • Infants - 0-6 months old - 1.7 mg per day.
